Final ISA translation changes per driver, reordering GPU command execution
matiasgoldberg · x · 2026-11-01
matiasgoldberg explains that code must eventually translate to the final ISA, which changes per driver version — and even without that, hardware call reordering (A, B, C becoming C, A, B with driver bookkeeping) can affect behavior. mike64t counters that in the compute world cubins are statically precompiled or JIT'd via ptxas entirely in userspace, so the libcuda shim shouldn't affect device-side execution of identical cubins.
