Prediction: Local Models Will Be the Biggest AI Story of 2027, Disrupting Inference Business
ZeYanjie · x · 2026-11-01
X user @quxiaoyin predicts local models will be AI's biggest story of 2027: while frontier models grow bigger and smarter, small models are improving fast. Users don't need their own model to solve the hardest math problems — they can distill a smaller one focused on what matters to them, running free, private and fast on-device. He argues this will disrupt Anthropic and OpenAI's current inference business model and spark a new generation of hardware powering local inference. Reposter @ZeYanjie agrees: running large models for simple tasks each time is simply too expensive.
