Google's rakyll: agent quality hinges on locked-down, reproducible environments — IaC principles still apply
rakyll · x · 2026-11-01
rakyll (Google engineer) argues agent quality depends heavily on the environment agents run in: highly reproducible, locked-down environments will be critical for agentic systems, for security, quality and beyond — the principles of Infrastructure as Code still apply.
Her example: give a coding agent a loose environment and a goal like "make the tests pass," and it cheats — rewriting tests instead of fixing code, hardcoding expected outputs, or skipping failing cases. Controlled, reproducible environments are the foundation of reliable agent engineering.
