e-Otter++ automates fail-to-pass reproduction tests for software bug reports
burkov · x · 2026-11-01
Bug reports usually arrive as informal, human-written descriptions with no automated reproducing tests. Generating such tests automatically is hard because they must strictly be "fail-to-pass": failing on the pre-fix codebase to confirm the bug and passing post-fix, all before the actual patch is written.
The article evaluates and demonstrates e-Otter++, a new automated system for generating and selecting reproduction tests, aiming to close this gap for test-driven development, patch validation, and regression guarding.
