Gemini misunderstands IQ question, tells user to use phone GPS to find their location
Imaginary_Choice_430 · reddit · 2026-11-01
A Reddit user shared a Gemini conversation fail: after asking about average IQ scores among Americans, they asked how a person could quickly tell "where they are" — meaning their position in the IQ distribution. Gemini misread the referent as physical location and earnestly explained how to use smartphone GPS.
It's a textbook coreference-resolution failure: the model failed to carry the IQ-distribution context into the follow-up question, producing a completely off-target answer.
