A user used ChatGPT to confirm a long-held hunch that Paul Anka's Puppy Love (1960) and Put Your Head on My Shoulder (1959) are remarkably similar musically. The model returned structured comparisons and scores: 8/10 overall similarity, 9/10 harmonic language, 9/10 arrangement and atmosphere, but only 5/10 melodic identity.
Both songs share G major, similar slow tempos, the same 1950s doo-wop I–vi–ii–V harmonic vocabulary, and even a final upward semitone modulation; the differences lie mainly in vocal delivery. The poster was impressed ChatGPT could quantify a random thought and handle custom table formatting, calling it a 10-out-of-10 answer.
