Anthropic's Managed Agents Can't Import Full Plugin Bundles Yet, Engineer Confirms
cfregly · x · 2026-11-01
Developer Chris Fregly found that while Anthropic's new Managed Agents docs show how to attach Skills, tools, and MCP servers to an agent, there is no documented support for importing a complete plugin bundle into an agent. Anthropic's Michael Cohen confirmed directly that this isn't available yet and work is underway, advising users to configure Skills, tools, and MCP servers in the agent definition for now.
Managed Agents is a reusable, versioned agent configuration bundling the model, system prompt, tools, MCP servers, and skills into a single resource referenced by ID at session start. Fields can be overridden per session, and multiagent orchestration (subagents and dynamic workflows) is supported.
