ChatGPT and Codex to share token-based usage limits across Plus, Pro and Business plans from December
mark_k · x · 2026-11-01
OpenAI's updated help docs confirm that starting in December, Plus, Pro and Business plans will have a shared, token-based usage allowance across ChatGPT and Codex, as agentic Work capabilities merge into the main ChatGPT experience.
- Usage is measured in tokens; more advanced models and complex tasks burn allowance faster
- Instant chat will not count toward usage
- Combined remaining usage and reset times visible in Settings → Usage; over-limit users can wait, upgrade, or buy credits
- OpenAI expects most users won't need to wait for resets more often than now
