Building Bluetooth mesh video calls with Claude Code: real-device testing changed everything
gautamgpt · reddit · 2026-10-31
A dev shares MeshLive, an open-source app for voice/video calls and livestreaming over Bluetooth mesh without internet, built primarily with Claude Code after starting with Codex.
Key lessons:
- Code that looks perfectly reasonable can fail in reality: one phone pair measured 1.1 Mbps, another barely 65 kbps, and the agent couldn't know this from code alone
- The approach shifted from fixed per-device configs to adaptive systems: measured link capacity, feedback-based bitrate control, dynamic buffering, queue pacing, resolution adjustments, recovery from Bluetooth stack quirks
- Workflow became measurement-driven: test on real devices, collect traces, find bottlenecks, fix with Claude, re-test across phones
- Now has Android/Windows betas, native Mac, early iPhone support, plus experimental multi-hop calls and live broadcasts
The author's bigger question: how to feed agents feedback from environments they can't directly observe, beyond unit tests and CI.
