Why AI can't just build the next Opus: the bottleneck is verification, not generation

Responding to 'if AI can build every app, why not just ask it to make the next Opus 6.5 or Kimi 4.5,' a developer argues that frontier model training is far more than generating an architecture plus a training loop. The real blockers: scaling data and compute requires continuous verification beyond loss curves; training failure modes are highly specific and expensive; post-training and capability/safety evaluation remain brittle; and entanglement with proprietary hardware is hard to audit. His take: AI today is strong at generation, weak at long-horizon verification — the industry needs assurance infrastructure keeping data→train→deploy auditable, not 'asking AI to write a model.'
