AI vulnerability flood: security veteran warns attackers may industrialize before defenders catch up
philvenables · x · 2026-10-31
Security veteran Phil Venables lays out the good and bad news of the "Vulnpocalypse": AI tooling has dramatically increased vulnerability discovery volumes, and while many organizations are responding faster with better prioritization and defense in depth, many others sit on years of unpatched software, configuration, and structural/policy vulnerabilities. So far attacker resource constraints have kept many of these targets unexploited — but as attackers industrialize their capabilities, that buffer may not hold. He notes that outside scams, crypto/Web3, and parts of the ransomware kill chain, industrialization hasn't yet fully paid off for attackers.
