VS Code Automations lack git commit triggers, leaving GitLab users stuck

A developer on Windows + GitLab + Ollama maps the current state of running local LLM agents automatically:
- VS Code Automations (1.144 Agents window) is closest: prompt + trigger + tools, runs locally, BYOK works with Ollama — but only schedule/manual triggers; no git commit/merge triggers (event triggers are cloud-only, GitHub issues/PRs only).
- GitHub Agentic Workflows (gh-aw) has the best format — repo Markdown with frontmatter for triggers, model, allowed tools — but is GitHub-only, useless for GitLab teams.
- Exported .automation.md files drop model/permission config, and BYOK support for automations is unclear.
Open questions: can local automations be triggered externally (git hook, CLI, URI)? Does Ollama work reliably with them? Is there a gh-aw equivalent for GitLab, or is git hook + claude -p/Codex headless the practical setup?
