Ziming Liu (MIT PhD, KAN author) criticized current AutoResearch efforts: "Today's AutoResearch is simply monkeys typing randomly. LLMs have hands (implementation) but no brains (research intuition & taste)."
His team proposes Meta Models — models that understand training and can predict the outcome of LLM training before it starts, aiming to give AI genuine research taste instead of blind trial-and-error.
