Stewart Alsop: engineering has 3 problem classes, and humans stay relevant
StewartalsopIII · x · 2026-10-31
Investor Stewart Alsop III breaks engineering problems into three classes:
- Deterministic: x will do y until z happens, every time.
- Probabilistic: x will probably do y, so measure how close you get and prepare for surprises.
- Problems you didn't know were problems until they became one.
He argues that claims of humans having no role are delusional—class 3 is vast "as vast as the universe," so humans as tinkerers and dreamers remain essential for quite some time.
