Designing agent evals: breaking timestamp ties with revisions without order dependence
jylusdev · reddit · 2026-10-31
A practical agent-eval design walkthrough: two feature-flag records share a timestamp but revisions 41/42 differ (false vs true). The source contract says higher revision wins, so the correct answer is enabled — but you must re-run with retrieval order reversed to prove the agent isn't just relying on array position. Keep the ordering rule, scope, winning revision and evidence IDs in the resolved context; and in a second fixture with no ordering guarantee, the agent should report the order as unresolved rather than confidently picking the last row. Evals should check both the chosen state and the evidence establishing its order.
