Toyota and Waymo to launch bZ4X robotaxi pilot in Japan in 2027
Scobleizer · x · 2026-10-31
Toyota and Waymo are advancing their autonomous driving partnership: bZ4X vehicles equipped with Waymo Driver will begin initial operations in Japan in 2027, then expand to the UK and other Waymo markets. Built at Toyota's Tahara-area Takaoaka plant with Waymo hardware integrated on-site, it aims to be Japan's first fully driverless taxi service using a domestically produced mass-market car. Waymo claims up to 20x safety vs human drivers on serious-injury crashes. Scobleizer notes traditional automakers without such deals will shrink dramatically within a decade.
