OpenAI's round shrinks: ~$11B raised at $1.25T valuation, below $30B target

Per WSJ, OpenAI's latest funding round has fallen well short of its target: less than a month after seeking at least $30 billion at a $1.4 trillion valuation, tepid interest from some large investors has left the company with roughly $11 billion in commitments at a $1.25 trillion valuation.
OpenAI told shareholders it plans to keep raising in the coming weeks, targeting family offices and high-net-worth individuals, with hopes of reaching up to $20 billion total. Figures like Gary Marcus amplified the report as a sign of cooling appetite for the AI trade.
