Genomic model authors: multispecies gains don't transfer to variant effect tasks
deAlmeida_BP · x · 2026-10-30
Responding to Anshul Kundaje, the authors confirmed their updated preprint now includes GTEx eQTL (Fig 5e) and E2G (Supp Fig 21) evaluations. However, the multispecies gains in track prediction did not carry over to variant effect prediction — the model is only on par with Borzoi there. The authors say they don't fully understand why and discuss it in Limitations.
