sigma.js, the open-source JavaScript graph visualization library (12.2k GitHub stars), has reached a stable 4.0 release focused on the long-standing pain of label rendering on graphs with thousands of nodes:
- Labels now render in WebGL via signed distance fields
- Every render layer merges into a single layer
- WebGL 1 support is removed
The author calls it the rewrite users have been waiting for if they've fought label rendering at scale.
