DoorDash CEO: AI agents have generated only a few hundred orders vs ~1B per quarter
Ars Technica AI · rss · 2026-10-31
On DoorDash's Q3 earnings call, co-founder and CEO Tony Xu said AI agents have generated "several hundred orders" since they started running — a "very low use case," he understated, for a platform that handled just shy of 1 billion orders in Q3 2026 alone. Xu sees real potential for agents in "long consideration purchases" where they proactively do work in the background, but for tasks as simple as ordering food, "we tend to see that come directly to DoorDash." A hard data point against the agentic-commerce hype.
