How much compute should data rewriting get? New scaling-law study quantifies it
ChengleiSi · x · 2026-10-31
A shared thread tackles two key questions about synthetic rewrites — now standard for improving data quality when data is limited: how much compute should you spend rewriting, and can a model trained on rewrites beat the rewriting model itself?
The authors fit scaling laws to answer both quantitatively, bringing the "rewrite budget vs. downstream performance" tradeoff into the scaling-law framework.
