OpenRouter team launches OpenCommerce: one API to buy from 5,000+ stores for agents

The OpenRouter team announced OpenCommerce ("OpenRouter for commerce"), a unified purchasing endpoint for AI agents:
- One API integrating 5,026 online stores including DoorDash, Amazon, and most Shopify stores; payments via Agentcard (Stripe Link and Shop coming soon).
- Solves three problems: coverage (one tool instead of browser automation or PSP integrations), reliability (claims 100% uptime, with thousands of search-to-checkout tests run every few hours per store to beat captchas and bot detection), and speed (under 20s warmed vs 2m40s cold, 18× faster).
- Ships a Commerce SDK (@agent-cards/commerce-sdk) with a buy tool that plugs into Claude, GPT, or Gemini agents, plus an Agentcard Vault for saved-card checkout approval.
Positioning: turn "search and buy on behalf of users" from brittle browser automation into a single tool call.
