OpenClaw's Trail of Bits audit confirms 23 vulnerabilities, all fixed
steipete · x · 2026-10-30
Responding to an old criticism, steipete points to OpenClaw's official blog: the project completed a broad security audit by Trail of Bits through OpenAI's Patch the Planet initiative.
Results:
- 27 private repository advisories and 3 standalone hardening PRs were submitted; 23 of 24 severity-rated reports were confirmed vulnerabilities (0 Critical, 2 High, 16 Medium, 6 Low), plus 3 defense-in-depth findings.
- Every actionable issue has been repaired and all 3 hardening PRs merged.
- The engagement combined AI-assisted research (Codex-assisted workflows) with manual human review, covering core permissions and user data handling.
The author also concedes his 3-month-old code on ClawHub wasn't well designed against malicious use, but says that has since been fixed.
