DeepMind launches Economics of Intelligence project to define AGI by economic thresholds
soumitrashukla9 · x · 2026-10-30
Google DeepMind researcher Alex Olegimas, together with economist Andrew Koh and Shane Legg, has released The Economics of Intelligence, the first project in a research program on the economics of AGI.
Key ideas:
- Defines milestones like "minimal AGI" via thresholds of economic capability rather than raw task performance;
- Tracks how market structure, employment, and wages shift as AI crosses these capability regimes;
- Aims to answer when and how capability improvements actually transform the broader economy.
This is the first in a planned series on how AGI will reshape the economy.
