Apple Trains UI Navigation Agents with Online RL Directly on Live iOS Apps
apple · hf · 2026-10-30
An Apple team including Samy Bengio proposes an online reinforcement learning framework that trains UI navigation agents directly on live iOS apps. It combines a planning agent with a UI grounding model and a novel neighbor-conditioned value estimation method for dense rewards, addressing the brittleness of SFT/offline-RL small models and the high inference cost of frontier VLMs while improving robustness and cutting inference costs.
