Developer jetha got the Lenovo ThinkSmart View (CD-18781Y, Qualcomm APQ8053) running mainline Linux 7.x with Arch Linux ARM, replacing Android, and open-sourced the work on GitHub (MIT license).
- The repo includes kernel patches (msm8953-mainline), lk2nd bootloader, an EDL flashing runbook, and Arch Linux ARM rootfs build files
- Once flashed, the device works as an ESP32 replacement for voice assistants: big screen, good audio, custom wake words, and a gateway service to connect Grok, Claude, and OpenAI
- The author notes community repos had bugs and a full flashing tutorial is coming
