lattedit: a local-first browser LaTeX editor with a JSON API for AI agents
cneuralnetwork · x · 2026-10-30
A new free, local-first LaTeX editor called lattedit runs entirely in the browser, showing source and compiled PDF side by side. Projects stay local by default, export as plain ZIP archives, and only sync if the user signs in.
- Supports pdfLaTeX, XeLaTeX, LuaLaTeX, BibTeX and Biber, with syntax highlighting, command completion, structured compile logs, and an accessible PDF preview. Compilation happens in isolated short-lived workspaces, with cached auxiliary state and skipped rebuilds for unchanged projects.
- Use cases include papers, resumes, reports, theses and slides; you can import Overleaf ZIPs and diagnose LaTeX errors.
- A notable angle for AI agents: a JSON API lets agents create and compile projects, and neither the editor nor the compile API requires an account or API key.
