Obsidian Recovery Playbook: Check Trash, File Recovery, Sync, Git, Backups
dSebastien · x · 2026-10-30
Sébastien Dubois publishes Part 6 of his Obsidian search series (29-min read), focused on what to do when a note is missing or deleted:
- Check safety nets in order: trash → File Recovery → Sync version history → git → backups
- File Recovery details: local snapshots every 5 minutes by default, kept 7 days, per-device, name-only search; the author's Time Machine plugin puts snapshots and git commits on one timeline and restores single blocks
- Obsidian CLI: lets scripts and AI agents use Obsidian's own index (search, backlinks, orphans, base:query); always scope queries with path= and limit=
- Also covers mobile search settings, accessibility, and a troubleshooting table for missing results
