Faros report: AI speeds coding but QA time up 300% across 22,000 developers

Faros AI's Q3 2026 "Speed Trap" report, based on telemetry from 22,000 developers across 4,000 high-AI-adoption teams, shows the cost of AI-assisted coding moving downstream:
- Writing: PR size +71.8%, task restarts +66.7%; task throughput +69.0% while Epic completion growth slows (+53.7%).
- Reviewing: QA time up +300.6% (4x); PRs merged without review +76.3%.
- Production: monthly incidents +125.4%, though incidents per PR only +14.5% — per-change risk is flat, volume is what grew.
- Churn: code deletion ratio +71.6% (down from +861% in the prior dataset).
- Countermeasure: teams with high agentic review cut time-to-first-review by 10.7% and kept unreviewed merges lower (+41.4%).
The report urges leaders to measure shipped quality and reliability, not code volume alone.
