Six months of MCP: which servers stayed, which got cut, and why
Dangerous-Scholar926 · reddit · 2026-10-30
The author shares their MCP setup after six months of daily use for research and marketing.
Stayed:
- A docs server for the libraries they code against;
- A filesystem server scoped to one folder;
- Agentik, which replaced five separate servers (search, scraping, keyword data, social data, image models) behind one connection and prepaid balance; the agent searches for the tool it needs instead of loading every schema, which helped context a lot.
Removed:
- Separate servers per paid provider (scattered keys and bills);
- Servers with overlapping tools that confused the model;
- Anything used less than monthly.
Honest caveats: Agentik is hosted-only, not open source, no bring-your-own keys; the author keeps a direct account for their heavy-use provider.
