Hive: open-source orchestrator routes Claude Code, Codex and local Ollama models as coding agents
sreekar_2498 · reddit · 2026-10-30
Developer open-sourced Hive (v0.1, MIT, TypeScript + SQLite): an orchestrator that coordinates AI coding agents on a single repo, spawning CLIs you already have (Claude Code, Codex, opencode, aider, Gemini CLI) plus direct harnesses for Ollama and LM Studio so local models can be routed agents.
Mechanics:
- Task routing with rule-based fallbacks when the picker model is unavailable; optional small local classifier (off by default).
- Parallel isolation: each agent runs in its own git worktree.
- Destructive-call gating: pauses for approve/deny when live tool calls look dangerous—detection, not sandboxing.
- Workflows with approval gates, runnable on schedule.
Everything runs locally with the server bound to loopback. hive doctor reports detected agents and local backends; the author seeks feedback from local-model users on quantization and trustworthy routing models.
