SGLang RFC decouples model code from parallelism so new models skip reimplementation
BanghuaZ · x · 2026-10-30
An SGLang RFC proposes decoupling model code from parallelism across construction, forward execution, and weight loading.
- Core idea: models define math structure, logical dimensions, and checkpoint semantics; shared infra derives parallel execution and local parameter layouts from the configured topology
- Two workstreams: completing layer boundary integration, and operator-owned layouts for weight loading
- Payoff: adding a new model no longer requires reimplementing parallelism
