FlexGlue's 0.6 px average keypoint shift matches SIFT's subpixel refinement threshold

Researcher duchaaiki highlights an elegant detail in the FlexGlue paper: its local refinement module shifts correspondences by only 0.6 px on average — exactly the threshold SIFT uses for subpixel refinement.
Per the paper excerpt, FlexGlue's coarse readout already places over 80% of queries within 2 px of ground truth. Instead of a separate fine-scale CNN as in dense matchers, it follows EDM and predicts a sub-cell offset with a small MLP from current-layer tokens, requiring only two interpolations and an MLP per query — scaling linearly with query count — and confirms it fixes residual subpixel errors while leaving coarse matches intact.
The author calls it an amazing paper and promises a proper deep-dive post tomorrow.
