Measuring compaction on a 400k-token session: 38s and $1.99 per run
brandon_galang · x · 2026-10-30
Alezander9 argues compaction is a mistake: on a real 400k-token Opus 5.5 session it costs 38s/$1.99 (29s/$0.17 cached) and the summary is lossy, dropping exact error messages and file paths. Mainplane instead keeps every session as a full file record and starts fresh sessions immediately, retrieving needed context on demand. Brandon Galang confirms this matches his own practice of using sub-agents to pull context from prior sessions.
