Brushsworn: An Ink-Wash Roguelike Where Radicals Merge Into Skills
ezshine · x · 2026-10-30
A community-shared indie game, Brushsworn by stonebell, is an ink-wash-styled survivors-like built entirely around Chinese characters as skills.
- Every skill is a character: your slash evolves from 一 to 刀 to 山 as it levels up.
- Radicals combine: two trees make 林 (a ring of trees), sun+moon make 明 (a screen-wide beam), two people make 从 (ink doubles) — 15 characters total, 7 with hidden recipes.
- Written characters are carved onto a Stele Wall for permanent bonuses, and each run can be saved as a shareable calligraphy piece.
- Skills add live Chinese folk instrumentation, plus an idle auto-battle mode. Free to play on itch.io.
