GitHub recorded 7.38B commits in September 2026, over 5x a year earlier, and has added 4M CPU cores, 160PB of storage and 50Tb/s network capacity this year to absorb agent-written code. An August 17 traffic surge knocked out auth, Actions, PRs and Copilot for 7h47m. GitHub is moving to multi-region Azure (early next year) and rebuilding Git to decouple storage from compute. Nadella also announced Copilot Fusion (40% faster, up to 77% cheaper), a unified Copilot harness in Foundry, and Copilot Projects for multi-agent orchestration.
