Open-source SpEdE toolkit removes/replaces objects in Gaussian splat scenes via clicks
Burgstall · reddit · 2026-10-29
A developer open-sourced SpEdE (Splat Edit Engine, AGPL), a ComfyUI toolkit for editing Gaussian splat scenes — built as a Higgsfield contest entry. Load a scene, click an object, then: remove it (the hole is filled with new Gaussians fitted against all capture cameras, so it holds up when orbiting), replace it via text prompt (optionally with a reference image) — Qwen-Image draws it, TripoSplat converts it to Gaussians placed on the old surface — or extract it as a clean PLY. Everything runs locally with open weights: SAM 3.1, Qwen-Image 2.1, MoGe-3, TripoSplat, plus a small web UI. Caveats: tested only on Ubuntu + RTX 5090, 32GB VRAM recommended, gsplat must be compiled against your torch/CUDA.
