Modal Sponsors Gray Area's 'Scaling Intelligence' Show With 11 AI Artworks
charles_irl · x · 2026-10-29
Modal partnered with San Francisco art org Gray Area on Scaling Intelligence, an exhibition of 11 new artworks created by artists selected from a global open call, each given cloud compute credits to explore "abundant, malleable intelligence."
Rather than treating AI inference as a way to do more of the same, the artists use models as a translation layer — pairing a river's seasonal cycle with a model's nightly retraining, or a neural network's metabolism with microbial colonies and watersheds. The show runs through Sunday at the Grand Theater in Mission, curated by Wade Wallerstein.
