Essay argues AI authorship is fine: Rodin never carved the marble either
jordanbayne · x · 2026-10-29
Film3 founder Jordan Bayne published a long essay using art history to defend authorship in AI creation. Rodin only modeled in clay — trained practitioners carved the marble under his direction, yet the work was still his. The same held for Rubens' workshop, Rembrandt's studio, and Bernini. The essay argues authorship resides in vision, decisions, corrections and recognition of when work becomes itself — not in physically executing every step — so AI-assisted creation can coexist with human authorship, just as workshop labor did for centuries.
