Stanford and Mercor launch TaskNet to refresh O*NET job-task data with worker input
soumitrashukla9 · x · 2026-10-29
A Stanford team (with Erik Brynjolfsson, Jenn Wang, Diyi Yang) together with Mercor and the ONET Center launched TaskNet: jobs are modeled as bundles of tasks, but workers experience new responsibilities before job descriptions catch up, so the project starts by listening to workers. Molly Kinder (formerly Brookings) says ONET is the best data available but overdue for a refresh, and hopes TaskNet splits task bundles by seniority — a junior lawyer's daily tasks look nothing like a partner's, which maps onto early-career roles being hit by AI first.
