Microsoft reportedly readies buyout for a quarter of US staff, layoffs could hit 60,000

Microsoft is reportedly preparing a voluntary exit offer for up to a quarter of its US workforce, alongside layoffs that could reach 60,000 across the US, India, Canada and the UK.
For scale: its first-ever buyout this spring covered about 7% of US staff — this would be more than three times larger.
The twist: Microsoft isn't in trouble; it's posting record profits. When one of the world's most profitable companies pays a quarter of its people to leave, it signals how replaceable those roles have become — and where the money is going instead.
