New paper rules out Hamiltonian Phase States as a route to quantum-only Microcrypt

StefanoGogioso · x · 2026-10-29

A new paper by Jens Eisert's team explores the "Microcrypt" world where classical one-way functions don't exist, but quantum primitives — quantum-computable one-way functions, one-way puzzles, and pseudorandom state generators — do, revealing a striking classical/quantum cryptographic separation. The work shows that Hamiltonian Phase States (HPS), previously conjectured as a promising route to this world, do not deliver it.
