Kaggle Bench Summit Opens With Four Ways AI Benchmarks Fail Today
amankhan · x · 2026-10-29
Kaggle's Bench Summit kicked off with the theme that trust in benchmarks is eroding. In the opening session, Kaggle's janiejgu outlined four ways benchmarks fail today:
- Relevance: many public benchmarks don't resemble what your agents do in production.
- Saturation: evals go stale within a release cycle.
- Verification: everyone has their own implementation of the same benchmark, so scores vary wildly due to infrastructure, not model quality.
- Infrastructure: evals infrastructure itself is lacking.
Kaggle's stated mission is to rebuild trust in evals and help the world discover what works and what doesn't in AI.
