Google previews Gemini 4 Carbon: tops AA Index at 59, launches feel like checkpoints now

Google DeepMind's Koray Kavukcuoglu previewed Gemini 4 Carbon, just two weeks after Gemini 4 Argon. The model targets long-horizon coding and posts SOTA across the cybersecurity defense lifecycle (detection, validation, remediation), topping the updated v5.0 Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index at 59. It rolls out this week to a subset of cyber defenders via the Fairwind Program.
Researcher Qiaoan Zhang added that the internal mood has shifted: less than a year ago Gemini 3 Pro's #1 debut was a big-bang celebration, but after weeks of dogfooding Carbon, ambitious code rewrites feel routine, overnight loops run dozens of experiments to repro and fix bugs, and swarms inspect RL data — "launches just feel like periodic checkpoints now."
