Culper Research Goes Short on Cerebras, Claims Wafer Chips Break Down in ~2 Years
StefanoGogioso · x · 2026-10-29
Short seller Culper Research announced a short position on Cerebras Systems ($CBRS), arguing its wafer-scale engines degrade after only 2 years in use, undermining the entire business. A shared technical analysis adds: Cerebras's redundant interconnects may solve yield, but the extensive BEOL wiring increases area vulnerable to time-dependent dielectric breakdown (TDDB); TDDB-induced shorts are especially dangerous in this design, and spatially correlated dielectric-thickness variation makes simultaneous large-area degradation likely. A substantive controversy for the AI compute landscape.
