A new report from Liepin's Big Data Research Institute, covered by Caixin, shows Chinese programmers are pivoting into AI, chips and robotics as traditional coding jobs contract — AI is reshaping, not eliminating, the software workforce.
Key numbers: in the first nine months of 2026, the share of programmers switching career tracks rose to 26.4%, up 6.7 percentage points from the same period in 2024; the number of career switchers has grown 39.4% over three years.
