Do declarative APIs help LLMs write better code? One developer's experience and open question
GianniMariani · reddit · 2026-10-28
A developer argues that declarative APIs/DSLs lead to better and faster LLM-generated code, defining declarative by five traits: ask for what you want, not how; composability; impossible to express wrong things (errors caught earliest); no surprises (hard to delete a database, easy to build correct combinations); and inspectability.
Anecdotally, code generated against such APIs is more complex but more correct. He asks whether others have pushed the declarative angle hard on LLM codegen.
