Florida's anti-AI education op-ed flagged as 100% AI-written by detector Pangram

Paul Novosad highlights a delicious irony: Florida's Education Commissioner Henry Mack co-authored an op-ed declaring "Has AI ruined education? Not in Florida," warning against students relying on "machines that do the hard work." Yet per a Miami Herald analysis using Pangram's AI detector (claimed error rate under one-hundredth of a percent), the op-ed was likely written entirely by AI. Two other Mack articles this year scored 100% and 93% AI, and most of his official speeches, letters, and memos since taking office appear AI-written. The department's communications chief didn't dispute the results, insisting "the arguments, the priorities, the voice are his." Novosad's point: educators should model ethical AI norms, not lie about their own use like cheating students.
