Dev uses Qwen in an opencode harness to root an LG TV and strip out spyware
Switchboy1 · reddit · 2026-10-28
A Reddit user describes using a Qwen model in an opencode harness to root his own LG webOS TV. Leveraging the SSH server exposed by Developer Mode (port 9922, 'prisoner' user), he wrote a detailed context file instructing the agent to escalate privileges from the userspace shell, probe telemetry processes, log working exploits, back up the system, and make root persist across reboots — aiming to remove spy/adware or block it from launching.
The model initially questioned the ethics but complied once framed as modifying a device he owns outright. Context: recent reporting on TV makers' deep content inspection, which the author notes is borderline illegal in the EU but unpoliced. The case shows how an agent with a well-structured context file can pull off real system-level operations on unusual hardware.
