Artificial Analysis launches Progress Index, placing every model since Nov 2022 on one capability scale
teortaxesTex · x · 2026-10-28
Artificial Analysis launched its Progress Index v1 alongside v5: it places language models released since November 2022 on a single capability scale spanning a wide range of benchmarks, enabling comparison of how underlying capability has changed over time — including between models released years apart.
Key points:
- Built on learnings from Epoch AI's Capabilities Index; the team thanks Epoch AI (Yafah Edelman & team) and Anthropic;
- Positioning: use the Progress Index for long-run capability evolution; the Intelligence Index remains the primary measure of current frontier intelligence;
- The index and methodology pages are publicly available.
It gives questions like "how much better is today's frontier than GPT-4-era models" a unified quantitative ruler.
